Leonie Tang, a Dublin-based artist, has created a camera obscura opposite the entrance hut at Fort Dunree.
The term Camera Obscura comes from the latin meaning ‘darkened chamber’, and is the earliest known imaging devise and the precursor of the modern day photographic camera. This site-specific installation makes use of the small shutter windows and darkened interior to create a panorama of images within the space, which change with the light and the time of day. It is charming and wonderful, evocative and educative.
“This installation will educate even the stranger to the photographic practice on everything from the history of photographic process, to the science behind optics, to the artistic endeavours of the photographic medium – and all within a spectacular interactive domain.” Leonie Tang
The installation was open until mid-September, Monday to Friday from 12h00 to 16h30 and Saturday/Sunday from 13h to 16h30.
