Book An Uncommon Tour of Inishowen
Flax to Thatch & Linen
Artist: Kathleen O’Hara Farren
During the afternoon of May 5th, Moville’s Shorefront will feature the Flax to Thatch & Linen project. Brian Lafferty from Craigmór Thatching Services and Kathleen O’Hara Farren from The Edge School Network will facilitate a hands on workshop and you are invited to come along, stay a while and bring a picnic, & blanket. We gather from 1pm The Putting Green on Moville’s Shorefront.
Brian will demonstrate thatching from preparing the flax to finishing the thatch. Kathleen will invite you to make fibres from flax and to weave a linen cloth. Supported by musicians and Inishowen’s inspiring wild landscape.
“Living in Inishowen has given me a deeper sense of connection to the land, water, my ancestors and self. I’m grateful for the community here who care for the natural beauty of this peninsula. When working with natural fibres, I’ve seen the same thrill in children and adults in my workshops… it strikes a chord, deep within and feels just right! I hope that the freedom to be creative here continues to flow for future generations” says Kathleen. “This project with Artlink is called, Flax to Thatch & Linen by Hand & Heart: Remembering Richness. We will share an afternoon on the Shorefront Green in Moville, preparing flax for thatching and making linen threads. Anticipate an enjoyable community experience with hands-on participation in this ancient heritage craft. Nature connection like this inspires creativity & brings out the best in us!”
