Julie Griffiths

we make the road by walking it…

…a spiralling path is made by repeated walking, over the time of the exhibition, as an invitation to others to follow, later dissolving back into the landscape.

Decelerating, moving across the earth with patience, seeing on an intimate scale, calling to others, attuning to ecologies of place, treading softy, connecting gently to what is beneath our feet. Slowly attending to the urgency of the times.

Unlearning.

Mark making, erasing, suspending, repeating, absorbing – on a page, on a landscape, on a body, in the mind’s eye, in the virtual. Fading in and out of view.
Walking as drawing, walking as encounter, as invitation, connection, listening, meditation, progression.
Existing within a work.

Traveller, There Is No Path Extract
Antonio Machado (Trans. Asa Cusack)

Traveller, your footprints
Are the path and nothing more;
Traveller, there is no path,
The path is made by walking.

By walking the path is made
And when you look back
You’ll see a road
Never to be trodden again.

Traveller, there is no path,
Only trails across the sea…
