Is a painter and print-maker. Having returned to Inishowen from London after 22 years, she was immediately struck by the power of the landscape and its direct and physical connection with memory and sense of home.
"Paper is a medium, a document, a catalyst, a message, a creative act, it transforms for the better or worse, it travels, it is solid in a semi transparent world, it holds value, it proves, it allows us to share information and ideas, it sorts us into groups of accepted and rejected, it covers up temporarily, it can be destroyed easily, it is domestic, it is bureaucracy, it is white, it is empty, it is made in bulk by machines, it is handmade and it is the subject and material for my art practice."
s. has been a studio artist since April 2014. Her work is about finding a simple way to speak about simple things.
The less obvious lessons of nature interest me the most. My photographs not only show beauty but evoke a sense of wonder and mystery. I like my photographs to give a feeling of looking at a hidden world we don't normally see.
My choice of subjects come from a place of intuition and is fuelled by the desire to partake in the stories that unfold around me. The stories that are not at first obvious, but show the relationship of man to nature affirming the beauty of the world.
Nature offers an infinity of views and changing light. There are great photographs waiting to be found everywhere, everyday but it takes the vision of an artist along with the tenacity of a hunter to find them.
Is a visual artist specializing in sculpture & photography and a recent graduate of Iadt Dunlaoghaire.
The depths of our souls and what lies beyond the surface fascinates me and I try to capture the qualities of the unseen that can only be felt or experienced through the spirit.
