We received many excellent proposals from dedicated and talented artists and we are delighted to announce the artists selected by the panel are Cliodhna Timoney from Letterkenny Donegal and Michael Flaherty from Port Union, Newfoundland.
Artlink are grateful for the continued support of the Arts Council of Ireland and Donegal County Council who have made these residencies possible.
Selected Exchange Residency Artist: Michael Flaherty
Describing his practice Michael says:"I work primarily in ceramics and my practice meanders freely between craft and conceptual art. Clay itself is a physically versatile material, and like all craft media it has the intellectual versatility to be purely utilitarian at one moment and entirely cerebral at another. I believe I am drawn to clay in particular because of its elemental earthiness. With clay as my medium the earth becomes my studio, and the art that I make is intrinsically linked to location, landscape, and the environment."
Selected Exchange Residency Artist: Cliodhna Timoney
Cliodhna’s work looks at rural and provincial social histories, subcultural movements and marginal methods of making. She appropriates the cultural detritus from these sources alongside the debris of everyday life to create allusions of other realities or fictional states. Gleaning matter from the everyday, Timoney pushes this matter into new contexts revealing awkward meeting points and precarious moments of mutation.
