One of the highlights of the Visual Arts calendar during the City of Culture 2013 in Derry-Londonderry was the “No Jury, No Prize” exhibition held at the London Street Gallery.
Amateur and professional artists alike submitted one piece of work to be shown during the Turner Prize exhibition month, and in all some 300 artists participated. The exhibition was a hit not only with the public, but also captured the attention of national media, with the exhibition featuring on the BBC News and in the press.
Sadly the London Street Gallery closed its doors in January 2014, but curator Rory Harron was determined that such a successful Visual Arts initiative should have a legacy.
He explains, “The exhibition was so popular last year, with over 300 pieces from individual artists being shown, and hundreds of visitors arriving every day to see the show, that we felt it would be a shame not to be make this a legacy event of the City of Culture. Happily Artlink in Buncrana has stepped up to help, and will be hosting the exhibition this from 15th November to 14th December at the Fort Dunree Gallery in Buncrana, which is a truly spectacular location.”
