Curated by Dr.Rory Harron
Artlink are pleased to announce that they will be hosting the No Jury, No Prize exhibition at the Saldanha Suite at Fort Dunree, which will open to the public from Wednesday 14th October and continue until 4th November 2015.
The concept behind the exhibition originated in Paris in 1884 when a group of artists known as the Societe des Artistes Independants put on a show with a simple motto: “No Jury, No Awards”. There would be no selection committee, no prizes, all artists’ works would be admitted, and all work hung equally. This was truly a revolutionary concept at the time.
The first No Jury, No Prize exhibition was developed by curator Rory Harron and held at the London Street Gallery in Derry during the City of Culture 2013, where it was one of the highlights of that year’s festivities.
Last year the event was hosted by Artlink at the Saldanha Gallery, Fort Dunree, and was a resounding success. This year the exhibition will feature the work of approximately 100 artists from all across the North West and beyond. The works range in theme and format, from painting, photography, glass, ceramics, textiles, wood, taxidermy, mixed media and live art and are a celebration of art and craft production in our region at present.
A reception event will be held on Friday 23rd October 2015 from 6-8pm; when the exhibition will be launched by Traolach O Fionnan; Donegal Arts Officer and John Mc Carter, RNLI Operations Lifeboat Manager. 12.5 % of proceeds from sales at the exhibition will go to support the RNLI.
Opening Wednesday 14th October – Wednesday 4th November 2015
